Meet The Band: Falling Into Rhythm & Striking A Groove

FALLING INTO RHYTHM & STRIKING A GROOVE

In the creation process of the Final Fridays @ 5 music video series, Brendan Frank and J. Golko of Action Heights are able to develop their relaxed, swing-infused style by paying homage to the retro and modern sounds of over a century's worth of popular music.

A typical FF@5 session involves the spirit of live performance by recording entire takes of three to four songs, captured by multiple cameras.

After a few months of dialing in the format and procedure, the sound of Action Heights has leveled up in large strides - particularly the complimentary tones and timbres of Brendan's acoustic and electric guitars with J. Golko's dynamic selection of woodwinds.

BEYOND THE BAND:
Highlights from 2022

BRENDAN FRANK

Outside of Action Heights, Brendan balances multiple artistic domains between his life as Band Director at Antioch Upper Grade School and performing regularly throughout the Chicagoland area at music festivals, breweries, and private events.

This year, he graduated from Eastern Illinois University with his Master's in Music Education. A few noteworthy classes include Psychology of Music Teaching and Learning, History and Philosophy of Music Education, and his Capstone project titled What the Heck Is Cāˆ†?! A Beginner's Guide to Jazz Guitar.

Back home, the house of Frank welcomed the addition of Max: his second golden retriever, born Halloween 2021!

J. GOLKO

In addition to his roles as artist and producer of Final Fridays @ 5, J. Golko has been performing in the musical theater community around Chicago.

Sprinkled throughout 2022 have been several standout performances as a substitute performer on woodwinds and keyboard for the circus-meets-cabaret dinner shows Teatro ZinZanni and Cabaret ZaZou at the Cambria Hotel.

Earlier in the year, he debuted his original seminar called Musical Physics: The Phenomenon of Resonance.
